Marksburg

We visited Marksburg, the only castle on the Rhine which was never successfully taken by assault. It is therefore reasonably intact and a lovely example of what a medieval castle may have been. Construction began on it in the 12th century and continued for the next 800 years; It is currently maintained by the German Castles Association.
